Dental technology has evolved over the years and made it easier for everyone to have a white, straight smile that they can feel comfortable with. One option that many patients choose for a better-looking smile are porcelain veneers. If you are considering this option, we have everything you need to know about them so you can make an educated choice.

What Are Veneers Used For?

As with any type of cosmetic dentistry, veneers can fix a variety of problems that cause trouble with your teeth, including:

  • Discoloration from root canals, stains from food, medication or too much fluoride
  • Worn down teeth
  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Misaligned, irregularly shaped or uneven teeth
  • Large gaps between teeth

These problems can lead to more than decreased self-confidence. They can also affect your oral health and make it hard to keep your teeth healthy. That’s where a dentist like Dr. Becker can help to not only repair your smile, but to inspire you to care for your mouth in appropriate ways.

How Are Veneers Placed?

Veneers are used to cover the very front part of the teeth. They are custom made for your teeth and wafer thin. They change the length, size, shape and color of the teeth when they are bonded to the very front. Veneers made of porcelain look more natural and are better able to resist stains.

To prepare your tooth, Dr. Becker removes a small portion of the tooth’s enamel from the surface. A model of your tooth is then made and sent to a lab to construct the veneer. While you wait for your permanent veneer, a temporary one will be placed so your teeth still look the same. You will then return to our office in several weeks to have the permanent veneer bonded to your tooth. You leave our office with more confidence and a smile you love.
