Dental emergencies can happen to anyone at any time. If you experience a serious dental problem after business hours, you may start to panic and wonder what options you have to take care of your issue. Fortunately, Advanced Dental offers emergency dentistry services and we’ll gladly take care of your dental trauma even after our office is officially closed for the day.

How To Tell if You Have a Dental Emergency

Not every minor tooth pain qualifies as a dental emergency, so how can you tell if you need emergency services or if you can wait a few days until your scheduled appointment? Here are a few clues that your oral discomfort requires treatment right away:

  • Unexplained oral bleeding that won’t stop
  • Pus or abscess around one or more teeth
  • A knocked-out tooth
  • Sudden, intense tooth pain that won’t subside
  • Dental trauma leading to cracked or loose teeth

If you experience any of these situations, it’s important to treat them as dental emergencies requiring immediate care. Dr. Mike Maroon is a compassionate dentist in Cromwell, CT, who offers skilled care for dental trauma and other situations requiring quick and experienced treatment.

What To Do When Faced With a Dental Trauma

There are a few things you can do to improve your outcome when faced with a dental trauma. First, if you are experiencing oral bleeding, it’s important to quell the bleeding as quickly as possible. You can do this by rinsing your mouth with some ice water if the bleeding is relatively mild. If the bleeding is heavier, you may need to press a piece of clean gauze against the bleeding site. If you can get the bleeding to slow down, call our office to schedule your emergency dentistry appointment. If you can’t get the bleeding to slow down, head to the nearest emergency room right away for treatment.
