Many patients who are considering braces later in life wonder about the options that are available to correct their smiles without necessarily advertising that they are using orthodontics. This can be for a variety of reasons, and luckily there are a couple of options available. Less visible braces that use ceramic instead of wire brackets have been available for some time, and for those who want the ultimate in low-profile orthodontics, there is Invisalign.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a revolutionary orthodontic that replaces traditional braces and their ongoing adjustments with a set of fitted trays that can be removed as needed for eating and oral hygiene. Patients wear them, meeting with the doctor and changing them as needed to advance the stages of their tooth realignment. Not everyone is an ideal candidate for Invisalign®, though, so it is important to understand whether or not it is right for you.

How to Tell if You Are an Invisalign Candidate

To find out if this treatment is likely to work for you, check out the following list of criteria:

  • The issues you want corrected are mild to moderate gapping or misalignment.
  • You are an older teenager or adult who is primarily done with growing and oral development.
  • You are dedicated enough to avoid removing them except when necessary.
  • You have taken Invisalign®’s smile assessment test to find out whether or not they recommend it for you.

Obviously, step four there is an optional one, but it can help patients who are trying to decide whether or not to ask about Invisalign with their decisions.

Talking About Options

If you think you are a candidate for Invisalign, make an appointmet to come in and talk to Dr. Angela Cotey about your goals. After the doctor evaluates your case, she will be able to make recommendations about your treatment, including a determination about whether or not you are an Invisalign candidate.
