How straight are your teeth? If you would prefer they be straighter but do not want the hassle of traditional braces, Invisalign® may be the answer. These clear aligners are custom-made to perfectly fit your mouth and shift your teeth into their proper positions. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign® products are removable and typically changed each week. By following these tips, you ensure a great experience.
Brush Your Teeth Properly
Brushing your teeth properly is important all the time but even more so while wearing Invisalign®. Use a soft-bristled brush and use a circular motion when brushing to ensure you are being thorough. In addition to brushing before inserting a new Invisalign® tray, you must remove the piece and brush after each meal. In addition to your teeth, brush your aligners when you wake up and before you go to bed. Remember to floss as well.
Consider What You Eat and Drink
Avoid eating or drinking anything other than water when you are wearing your Invisalign®. You should remove it before meals and brush your teeth before putting it back in. Avoid red wine, soda, coffee and tea while wearing your mouthpiece. Dark-colored beverages can stain the tray quickly and cause them to look unsightly. Additionally, the liquid can get stuck between the tray and your teeth and cause decay if not properly rinsed.
Prepare for Possible Weight Loss
Although it is not necessarily considered a side effect or an advantage, most dentists say their patients lose about 15 pounds while using the Invisalign system, likely due to the fact that they cannot eat or drink anything but water while wearing the tray. While most people are comfortable with the weight loss, if it is a concern for you, speak to your doctor first.
