While Madonna may have risen to fame on the charm of the gap in her teeth, gapped or misaligned teeth can cause a host of ongoing problems with tooth alignment and health. Crowding or drifting can cause teeth to twist or form additional gaps, and tooth gaps leave openings for trapped food to cause gum infections that lead to gum disease.

What Are Your Options to Straighten Misaligned Teeth?

At Knellinger Dental Excellence, we offer both Invisalign and six-month braces as options to straighten misaligned teeth. Consult with one of our dentists to determine which option is best for you, both in terms of appropriate treatment procedures and what fits your budget.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a tooth realignment solution that uses custom-made, clear aligners to gently push your teeth into the proper positions. Aligners can be removed for cleaning and comfort, but ideally should be worn at least 22 hours per day to have a proper effect.  Trays must be renewed more frequently than traditional braces, with renewal times averaging 2 weeks versus 4 weeks. Aligners are graduated, and approximately once per week you change to a new set of aligners as you take the next step in the realignment process.

What Are Six-Month Braces?

Six-month braces are another clear brace solution, usually offered as an attractive solution for adults in need of braces. Six-month braces are nearly invisible, and over the course of six months can provide effective cosmetic straightening. After initial application, braces may need to be adjusted and realigned to account for changes in tooth alignment.

Which Should I Choose?

Come see us to determine the best options for your tooth correction and realignment. We also offer Clear Correct as an alternative choice for cosmetic braces. A conversation with a dentist will let you make the best choice for your oral health and a bright, attractive smile.
