Invisalign® is a popular alternative to braces. Its popularity comes from the fact that, unlike ordinary braces, it’s pretty rare that anyone can tell you are wearing them. If you are considering Invisalign®, then there are some expectations you should have regarding pre- and post-procedures in this process. From consultations to adjustments, below discusses the process of straightening your smile.

Initial Consultation

There are certain tooth problems which Invisalign® treats very well, but in other cases a different procedure may be the right choice. This consultation can determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign®. Issues that are handled with this process include gaps, overbites and crowding.

Wearing Your Aligners

When you first start wearing your aligners, there can be an adjustment phase as you get used to the feel and speaking. Some people experience a slight lisp until they get used to talking with their aligners in their mouth. Also, they work best when worn for 20 to 22 hours every day, so you also have to get used to sleeping with them in place.

Regular Monitoring

It is customary to schedule an appointment with your dentist every 6 weeks or so. This lets your dentist check on your progress. You will also be receiving slightly different aligners from time to time as your gap or any other misalignment is slowly corrected.

Ask Questions

Sometimes a problem can reassert itself after adjustment, so be sure to ask your dentist if you will need a retainer or some other apparatus. Throughout the entire process, ask any questions that come up so that you and your dentist can be on the same page with your treatment.
