What Is It?
Full mouth reconstruction is the process of fully restoring or rebuilding a patient’s teeth in the upper and lower jaws. It is sometimes referred to as full mouth restoration or full mouth rehabilitation. A typical procedure requires the collaboration of general or restorative dentists as well as specialists, orthodontists, endodontists and oral surgeons. The number and type of doctors required depends on the individual situation.
Who Gets Reconstruction?
People lose teeth and require reconstruction for several reasons. Common reasons include decay, injuries, fractures or tooth erosion due to acid reflux or grinding. Sometimes a patient requires surgery to adjust the bite until it no longer causes jaw or muscle pain or headaches.
How Does the Process Work?
The process begins with a full examination. This exam determines the condition of current teeth, the health of the gums, joints and jaw muscles, and esthetics such as shape, size and proportion.
