One of the great things about living in the time we do is the rapid pace of development in the healthcare field. Procedures that were unheard of just a couple of years ago are now becoming commonplace, and educating patients about their options often means showing them what new innovations are there to help them. When it comes to fitting patients with crowns, this is definitely true. Traditional placements typically too weeks and required multiple visits because of the way crowns were constructed. Luckily, CEREC has changed that.

What is CEREC®?

CEREC® is short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. If you are a little confused about what that means, it breaks down fairly simply:

• Advanced computer imaging maps your mouth quickly.

• On-site manufacturing processes allow for the same-day construction of the crown.

• No impressions are needed.

• Crowns are permanent and made out of durable ceramic.

The result is a single visit procedure, which eliminates both the time invested in a follow-up for a final fitting along with the discomfort and caution that working with a temporary crown often brings during the waiting period.

Preventing Further Problems Like Decay

Traditional placements work well for the most part, which is why they have been used for so long. They still do have some risks, though, especially for patients with other oral health concerns like TMJ. CEREC® helps to minimize these concerns, and it also helps to prevent decay and other issues that can potentially set in when teeth are untreated.

Your teeth are vulnerable, especially after a complex procedure like a root canal. At the same time, healing often requires that patients have small windows of vulnerable time. When you work with the Southpark Dental team, though, we commit ourselves to reducing those windows of vulnerability as much as possible. Using new technologies like CEREC® is part of that.
